CANNOCK & STAFFORD ATHLETIC CLUB

STAFFORD ELITE MILE & FUN RUN

MARCH 20TH 2005

The young athletes from Cannock and Stafford Athletic Club were in tremendous form last weekend when they contested the first ever Stafford Town Centre Elite Mile race promoted by Stafford Borough Council.

Over a fast two lap course there were two age groups competing which were the under 15s and under 18s in both the boys and girls sections.

With all the athletes starting together it was 15 year old Chris Harvey who has a fantastic winter season that moved quickly into the lead followed by team mates Sam Evans (also 15) and 14 year old Ian McCann who was leading the under 15 race and by the end of the first lap he had a comfortable lead which he extended on the second lap to cross the line well clear. Crossing the line in second was Evans who had also built a lead on his younger team-mate McCann who in turn took the under 15 title.

In the girls races C&S again dominated with 14 year old Cally Read running superbly finishing fourth overall in the race behind her male club runners to take the under 15 title with 13 year old Rachel Atherton close behind to take the silver medal.

Siobhan Arms also giving an excellent performance just missed out in fourth place.

The under 18-race saw Emily Upton take a splendid silver medal with a determined effort finishing only two seconds behind the winner.

In the junior fun Run which had a total of 800 competitors it was the girls who again dominated with first place going to 12 year old Holly Allan followed by C&S team mate Ellise Cookson.

These two were given good club support by Rebecca Bray, Chloe Boulter, Shanie Read, Zoe Tomkins, Becky Colclough and Katie Gray.
